Until 1967, two years before hear death, she lived the rather cloistered life of an upper-class San Fransisco debutante. Then, she decided to move to New York, where she got a job in a bookstore and met Wojciech Frykowski, a friend of the novelist Jerzy Kosinsky. They started to date, and soon moved to Los Angeles, where Folger got involved in charity work and in the Los Angeles 'beautiful people' countercultural scene. Befriending Sharon Tate, wife of Roman Polanski, she started to bcome a frequent visitor to the Polanski's house where, on 8 August 1969, several members of Charles Manson's 'family'-styled cult attacked the Polanski residence, killing several people. Abigail Folger and Wijciech Frykowski were among the victims.
